Embedded Linux Software Developer

No Isolation is seeking an Embedded Linux Software Developer who is passionate about inclusion and innovation to join our Engineering team.

Full-time · Oslo / London

Loneliness is one of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century. No Isolation creates groundbreaking solutions to this problem for some of the most vulnerable in society.

About No Isolation

We are No Isolation, a company dedicated to reducing loneliness and social isolation, run by 50 passionate changemakers, entrepreneurs, and technologists. Our journey started in 2015 in Oslo, Norway, where our headquarters are located. We work across Europe, with offices in Munich and London, and have exciting expansion plans.

We are guided by strong values of equality and inclusion, as well as the belief that business can be a force for good. We design and sell “warm technology” products that create genuine feelings of human connection and belonging for those who cannot physically be together due to illness, age, or distance.

We have two products on the market today. AV1 is a telepresence robot that acts as the child’s eyes, ears and voice in the classroom, and Komp is a device that lets digital children and grandchildren share photos, messages and video calls with their analogue grandparents. Both products have received praise from external researchers for increasing the life quality of their users.

We are looking for an Embedded Linux Software Developer to join our Engineering team.

About the role

Your main area of responsibility will be software development on the devices themselves; from operating system to device specific application code.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Cooperating closely with the rest of product team to design and implement functionalities in our embedded platforms
  • Develop, maintain and improve our embedded software stack
  • Proactively drive improvements to the way we work

  • Taking lead on projects, as needed
  • Assist our Customer Success agents in providing accurate information to our customers and users regarding software updates, fixes and new features

Who are we looking for?

Our products use our own Yocto- based Linux distribution, so we do require that you have experience with embedded Linux. You will be part of deciding how our products evolve and improve, so we expect that you have experience with software development as part of a product team.

In addition, the ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer programming, computer science, related field, or can document equivalent work experience in software development
  • Experience with embedded Linux systems and Yocto
  • Strong problem solving and verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with one or more of the following languages: Go, C and C++
  • Experience working with embedded Linux (Yocto)

  • General knowledge about information security and privacy requirements
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment

As we greatly value ambition and willingness to learn, we would like to hear from you even if you do not meet all the criteria listed above.

Our employees share some common traits; they are kind, self-propelled, hardworking, great team players, responsible, and enjoy a good laugh.

As a company working to eradicate loneliness we feel it is important that our team reflects a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds so that we can better achieve our mission.
